Liz Jarry did the CELTA course with us in October/November 2018. A year later, she’s telling us about life post-CELTA and her exciting plans for the future!
Tell us about your academic and professional background before CELTA
I have a degree in English and Spanish languages. I was and still am until the end of 2019, translating, interpreting and teaching French and English to small groups of adults.
Why did you decide to do the CELTA course?
So that I can work while travelling!
What have you been up to since?
I completed an FLE course, which is similar to the CELTA but for teaching French as a foreign language. Having done the CELTA it was quite easy!
What would you tell someone who is thinking about doing the CELTA course?
I would definitely encourage them to do it! It’s essential if you intend to teach ESL/EFL. Nonetheless, be prepared to learn a lot more after the course is finished, especially on your first new position!
Can you give us an example of something you do which you remember learning on the CELTA course?
Having a lesson plan has been the best improvement to my classes.
What’s next for you?
I’ve booked my ticket to India, I’ll be there by the end of January 2020. Soon I’ll be looking for a position, near the Himalayan mountain range, the place where I wish to be for the next few years.
Thanks, Liz and enjoy your time in India! We remember you and your fellow trainees fondly!
